Step 7: Submit Your PR Application

Once you have completed the PR application form, received the Annex A from your employer, and prepared all supporting documents, you’re ready to submit your application. Ensure that all forms and documents are current as of the date of submission. The submission process is straightforward: you will need to upload your completed PR application and supporting documents online through the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore’s portal.

Step 8: Wait for Results

After submitting your PR application, the waiting period begins. The processing time can vary widely, typically taking between 6 to 12 months. During this time, try to stay patient and avoid excessive worry, as it won’t affect the outcome. If you haven’t received a response after 6 months, you can contact ICA for an update, though they will generally only confirm whether your application is still under review without providing further details.

Step 9: Upon Approval

Congratulations if your application is approved! You will receive an approval letter from ICA, which will detail the next steps. You must visit ICA’s office within 2 months to complete the formalities. Schedule an appointment to visit the 5th floor of the ICA building, where you will finalize your PR status. Ensure you bring:

  • The approval letter

  • Travel documents for yourself and any included family members

  • 2 recent passport-sized photos for each family member

  • Your Employment Pass (EP) and your family’s Dependent Passes (DPs)

  • Medical check-up results (including HIV test and chest X-ray) as specified in the approval letter

  • Form EP 152, completed and signed by your employer

  • Payment for identity card registration, re-entry permit, and entry permit (payment via NETS or Cashcard only)

The officer will advise you on the date for collecting your National Registration Identity Card (NRIC). Remember to make another appointment for this. You will also receive a PR certificate for safekeeping and a re-entry permit stamp in your passport, allowing visa-free travel in and out of Singapore. Ensure your re-entry permit is valid if you plan to travel.

After completing these steps, you are officially a Singapore Permanent Resident. Enjoy the benefits, including the freedom to live and work in Singapore without visa restrictions, priority government schooling for your children, and participation in the Central Provident Fund (CPF) Scheme. Don't forget to:

  • Inform your employer of your new PR status for CPF contributions and HR record updates.

  • Update your bank details with your new PR status.

Step 10: Handling PR Rejection

If your application is rejected, it’s important to remember that it’s not the end of your journey toward permanent residence in Singapore. There is no limit on how many times you can apply, but it is wise to wait at least 6 months before reapplying. Use this time to improve your application by making significant changes, such as enhancing your qualifications or increasing your salary, which can strengthen your application.
